Mind, Body and Soul

Today my MB&S was revitalized! My mind was stimulated with the reading of "Wicked - The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West." For several hours I sat on the beach immersing myself into the magical and magnificent work of Gregory Maquire. The power of his writing is undeniable. I was held captive from the first page! Soon, it came time for me to wrestle myself from the beauty and savagery in the Land of Oz. In the chiropractor's office my body responded perfectly to the gentle, yet effective, spinal manipulation from Dr. Ash. This was followed by a fantastic massage from Michael at Amazing Face & Body. I, me - a soul - with a body and mind became one again.

Meet and Connect

On Sunday evening I made a decision that on Monday I would engage in five conversations with five strangers. Since I'm vacationing in Myrtle Beach, the possiblity of meeting five new people would be easy! I began the morning with a trip to the Mail Room where I met Susan. She was quick to enlist the aid of friends to get a phone number of a guy she knew who could detail my truck. All Points Bulletin: Looking for Frank! I left without the number. Next, I went to Wachovia, where I met a teller and two customers. Our conversation was filled with laughter as they each tried, unsuccessfully, to recall an auto detailer. One of the customers knew that there was a pretty good cash wash over by 3rd Avenue. Although I stated I would go exploring for the unnamed business, I opted to take a short nap back in my room. When I awoke there was a car wash commercial on television, located in the area I had been told about! I hopped in my truck and headed south. The car wash guy was my fifth person for the day. He was very friendly. I liked him. I think my truck needs another wash.

Filling Up the Blank Pages

Wow! I am on vacation. A true escape from the norm. Eight days in the Carolinas. For the most part I will be on Myrtle Beach in SC then I will spend Thanksgiving with family in Hampstead, NC. Yes, it is cold! No, I'm not hitting the beach barefoot and clad only in a bikini ... I'm walking in sneakers, sweats with a hooded jacket! The air is crisp and clean. The sky at dusk was a swirl of pink, magenta, and gold woven in and out of many shades of blue. I went shopping today. It was a pleasure to experience an activity with no time limit. Making the experience completely stress free. Part of my afternoon was spent at Books-A-Million where I met a wonderful southern gentleman, Tim. We talked for hours about health, the Internet, making money and meeting new people. Tim, thank you for sharing and creating a delightful afternoon at BAM!

Control versus Chaos

Remember the television show, "Get Smart" from the last century? Wow, now that was funny ... no, not just the show but realizing that it was so last century! From 1965 to 1970 Bumbling Maxwell Smart, Agent 86 for CONTROL, with help from his competent partner Agent 99, fought the wrong doings of KAOS. Their adventures were filled with mishaps and misfortunes. The end result was always the same ... CONTROL saved the world from KAOS! A Mel Brooks' version of life. He scripted life lessons in that show. "One must have control to save the day from chaos." As a massage therapist, my life is controlled by a weekly planner in 15-minute increments. Activities are scheduled in a combination of those increments. I like that control - sometimes! There are many days I enjoy a blank page - no appointments, no meetings, no "must do this" - no control. Occasionally I like things to happen unexpectantly, spontaneously, randomly with those funny blurps in life that make you laugh - chaotic. I leave this Saturday for a week of blank pages. No schedule, no control. Let life happen! Enjoy the chaos! Check out the TV show at http://sharetv.org/shows/get_smart_1965. Check out the movie at http://getsmartmovie.warnerbros.com/.

It can freak you out!

Have you had moments in your life where you are freaked by what just occurred? There seems to be no logical explaination for what has happened other than to say it was a coincidence. In other words, have you thought of someone you had not seen in a while then they appear at your door, or have you thought of a word then throughout the entire day you hear it a dozen times? Well this week has been filled with these moments. It began with me thinking about someone and within an hour I heard from her. Then while scrolling through my phone directory I landed on a name of someone I had not heard from in a while when suddenly the phone lit up. For a moment I thought I had hit the call button but I soon realized the call was incoming and it was from my friend whose name I had just stopped on. Yesterday I saw a DVD of a film I wanted to watch but choose to wait on getting it ... pow! ... today a friend of mine brought the DVD to my place of work for me to watch! I have got to go play the lottery!

Main Street Remembered

Late this evening while filling up the gas guzzling SUV I heard a faint voice drifting through the still of the night. I looked about and found a lone figure of a woman sitting out on the top landing of a second floor dwelling. As she chatted on her cell phone I was taken back to my youth - back to Machias, Maine. Back to living on Main Street above the Jewelry Store. There were many summer nights were I and my friends sat out on the top landing of a second floor building. No cell phones then, just friends stopping over for a casual visit for a few hours. The nights were cool with the whisper of a breeze. Our voices carried softly down the street on such still nights. We absent-mindly watched lone figures of men and women traversing either side of the street, presumably heading home. The one traffic light blinking a lonely yellow hue about the intersection a few buildings from where we sat. It felt good to recall those days.
